Ted Lasso IS getting a fourth series

Apple and Jason Sudeikis confirm the comeback

Ted Lasso is to return for a fourth series, Apple TV+ has confirmed.

The announcement comes almost two years after Season 3 ended with what many fans felt could have been a definitive closure, with Ted heading home to Kansas.

However, Jason Sudeikis, who plays the titular manager of Richmond  football club and is one of the show’s originators, today released a statement in the voice of his alter-ego about the show’s return.

In it, he said  ‘As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to "look before we leap, in season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to leap before they look, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.’

Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, added: ‘Ted Lasso has been nothing short of a juggernaut, inspiring a passionate fan base all over the world, and delivering endless joy and laughter, all while spreading kindness, compassion and unwavering belief. everyone at Apple is thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Jason and the brilliant creative minds behind this show.’

AppleTV+ confirmed that Brendan Hunt and Brett Goldstein will return as executive producers, with Goldstein also continuing to serve as a co=writer.

However they have not stated where they will return to play Coach Beard and Roy Kent, as no casting information was released.  Nick Mohammed, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple and Phil Dunster are among those who starred in previous series.

In November, Dunster fuelled the rumour mill by saying that season 4 of Ted Lasso was happening – but that he had yet to get the phone call confirming he’ll be in it.

Dunster – who plays AFC Richmond’s star striker Jamie Tartt – added that he’d jump at the chance to return. ‘I don't know if I'll be in it,’ he said, but added: ‘There are certain members of the cast who have been re-upped, as it were.’

Dunster is making a new HBO comedy series for Bill Lawrence – who created Ted Lasso with Sudeikis, Hunt and Joe Kelly –  which stars Steve Carell  and is set on a college campus.
