Are You Being Served's Mike Berry dies at 82

He was the last surviving main cast member

Mike Berry, who was the last surviving main cast member of Are You Being Served?, has died at the age of 82.

He played junior salesman Mr Spooner in the last three series of the BBC sitcom in the 1980s.

And he  was also a singer with two top 10 hits to his name: Don’t You Think It's Time in 1963 and The Sunshine of Your Smile in 1980.

His manager and friend Peter Stockton confirmed the news of his death, paying tribute to an ‘amazing, highly talented performer’ on Facebook.

He wrote: ‘It is with the deepest regret that I have to inform everyone that the legendary Mike Berry died peacefully this morning , his family members by his bedside.’

After giving credit to Berry music career he added: ‘He was also a gifted actor, highlighted by his performances in the iconic comedy Are You Being Served?. A tragic loss to our world of music, and I hope that he is now having a laugh with many of his old pals up in Heaven.’

Berry also appeared in children's TV comedy Worzel Gummidge, playing Mr Peters from 1979 to 1981.
