Two Doors Down set for a comeback

Christmas special reportedly in the works

Two Doors Down is reportedly returning to screens for a Christmas special.

The news comes as a surprise as writer Gregor Sharp said. he felt unable  to continue working on the series following the death of its co-creator Simon Carlyle in 2023.

But The Sun today reports that the full cast will reunite for a one-off special of the Scottish comedy.

An unnamed source told the paper: ‘Gregor always felt that the show was Simon's baby - they were his characters. That's why he said he could not continue. But Gregor has finally relented and said yes. It's great news because the show was just left hanging there for the viewers.

‘Doing a one-off special, rather than writing a whole new series, takes the pressure off of Gregor. Hopefully if viewers are happy with the results that will encourage Gregor to continue. There really would be no better tribute to Simon than to continue with what he created.’

The ensemble cast includes Arabella Weir, Alex Norton, Elaine C Smith, Jonathan Watson, Doon Mackichan, Joy McAvoy, Graeme Stevely, Kieran Hodgson and Jamie Quinn.

It launched as a one-off Hogmanay special broadcast on BBC One in December 2013, followed by a full series for BBC Two in April 2016. In total seven series were aired, with the last one moving to BBC One.
