Marjolein Robertson to tour her show O
Shetland-born stand-up Marjolein Robertson is taking her show O on tour in 2025.
It is based on the comedian’s menstrual health issues, with and caused nine audience members to faint when it was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe in August. The comic says there were also at least 18 walk-outs during the show’s ‘gorier discussions’.
Told in parallel with a Shetland folk tale, she reveals how she almost died from period complications when she was 16, then spent the subsequent 14 years trying to get help for her condition, finally diagnosed as adenoymyosis
Robertson said: ‘This is my favourite hour to date to perform. It has some of my favourite jokes, but also, I am so glad to finally share this story in a way which can have people leaving empowered about their own bodies. Unless they faint. Cause that keeps happening too. My bad. Or should I say, my uterus’s bad.’
She said she has been contact by many people who had experienced similar health complications, especially women who felt unheard when seeking medical help, who said they found ‘comfort and help’ from the performance.
The O tour kicks off at the Hen & Chickens in Bristol on February 5.
