The Stand Up Sketch Show to hit the West End

Live version of ITV's comedy format

ITV’s Stand Up Sketch Show is to transfer  to the West End.

The format, in which actors recreate routines as comedians tell them, will run at London’s Lyric Theatre from November.

Casting is currently under way for comics and sketch performers to take part, while producers say the live version will feature a new improvisational element.

Executive producer Matt Campion said: ‘We’re thrilled to bring The Stand Up Sketch Show to the West End, giving audiences a chance to experience the same dynamic blend of stand-up and sketch comedy that has resonated so strongly on TV, but now with the added excitement of live, improvisational elements.’

The Stand Up Sketch Show has run for six series so far on ITV2 and ITVX, with comics including Russell Kane, Joel Dommett, Judi Love, Tom Allen and Babatunde Aleshe taking part.  The format has also been licensed to Sweden, Israel and the Middle East.

Campion’s company, Spirit Studios, is staging the show with live production outfit Entertainers. Tickets will go on sale later this year

Any money you contribute will directly fund more reviews, interviews and features – the sort of in-depth coverage that is increasingly difficult to fund from ever-squeezed advertising income, but which we think the UK’s vibrant comedy scene deserves.
