Comic to play the narrator in London run

Mawaan Rizwan is to star in the stage version of the Rocky Horror Show when it hits London’s West End next month.

The comedian and former Taskmaster contestants will play the Narrator in the latest revival of Richard O’Brien’s 1973 rock ‘n’ roll musical when it plays the Dominion Theatre for two weeks from September 6, with Jason Donovan as Frank N Furter.

Rizwan said: ‘Rocky Horror was such a formative show for me as a performer, so I’m very excited and honoured to be a part of bringing it back. I can’t wait for audiences to experience this joyously anarchic classic once again!’

The Rocky Horror Show is currently on a nine-month tour of the UK, and last month we reported how stand-up Nathan Caton would be taking the Narrator role for part of the tour.

Previous stars to have taken the role of narrator in previous incarnations of the show include Nicholas ParsonsSteve Punt, Windsor Davis, Rhona Cameron (the first female narrator), Dom Joly and Stephen Fry.
