Jo Brand cancels two major festival appearances

Comic too ill for Latitude and St Albans Comedy Garden

Jo Brand has cancelled two major festival appearances this weekend because of illness.

The 67-year-old comic was scheduled to headline Latitude in Suffolk tomorrow and  the Comedy Garden in St Albans on Sunday.

She broke the news on social media yesterday, as the Latitude campsite opened, writing simply: ‘I’m afraid that, due to illness, I won’t be able to perform at Latitude Festival or St Albans Comedy Garden this weekend. Sorry to let you down.’

Earlier this month she told Tom Allen on his Virgin Radio show that she was looking forward to festival, saying: ‘It’s a very relaxed festival, but the only thing that’s slightly terrifying me is the prospect of looking down at a huge group of children under the age of 10 down the front.’

At Latitude, Judi Love, who was due to co-headline the comedy tent on Sunday with Joanne McNally has now moved to Saturday. Sara Pascoe remains tonight’s headliner.

And for the 6pm show at St Albans that she was due to close, Brand has been replaced by Father Ted star Ardal O’Hanlon. Others performing over the weekend include  Ross Noble, Tim Key, Shaparak Khorsandi and Josh Widdicombe.
