Gregor Fisher and Greg McHugh start shooting Only Child

BBC's new Scottish-based father-son comedy

Filming has begun on BBC One’s new Scottish-based father-son comedy Only Child.

The six-part series stars Gary Tank Commander’s Greg McHugh as Richard, a budding actor who travels back to his family home   to look after his ageing and wilful dad Ken, played by Fisher.

McHugh said: ‘If you’d told my younger self graduating from drama school that one day I’d be shooting a father/son comedy with one of my heroes Gregor Fisher, I wouldn’t have believed you. To be honest it still doesn’t seem real.

‘Bryce Hart has written a beautiful show full of laughs with some really touching moments. I cannot wait to get going.’

Fisher added: ‘I am delighted to be working with young McHugh on Only Child for the dear old BBC.’

The premise is that only child Richard pays a visit to his recently-widowed father – and realises he may need a bit more full time help. Not that Ken would agree, as the eccentric, strong-willed technophobe is set in his ways, leaving Richard worrying about his dad growing old.

The cast will also include Amy Lennox, Stuart Bowman, Forbes Masson, Clare Barrett, Robin Laing and Paul Rattray.

The comedy is being shot in Glasgow and locations in the North East of Scotland by Happy Tramp North and will air on BBC One, BBC Scotland and iPlayer.
