Despite savaging Rishi Sunak over Covid

Armando Iannucci is to be recognised in the King’s birthday honours, it has been reported today.

The Times says that the  political comedian behind The Thick of It and Veep is expected to have his OBE upgraded to a CBE for services to film and television.

It comes despite one of his most recent projects being the stage satire Pandemonium – a dissection of the Government’s  chaotic pandemic response that renames Rishi Sunak as Richer Sooner, ‘half man half coin’.

When Iannucci was awarded the OBE in 2012, he said that it would have been ‘bad manners’ not to accept.

Also named by The Times are a number of prominent Westminster figures including  former prime minister Gordon Brown, several senior civil servants and Tory MPs James Morris, Richard Fuller, and Iain Stewart

The honours list will be published on Friday.

Iannucci has today written a commentary on the election campaign so far for the i newspaper.
