Comic's version of a talk show to be filmed and put online

The People Vs. Jerry Sadowitz could be returning as a web series.

In the show – which ran on Channel 5 in 1998 to 1999 – members of the public would be able to talk on any subject, except politics and religion, with the controversial comic awarding the most deserving a prize of £10,000.

However, he would usually interrupt them and often verbally abuse them. And if he sounded a gong they would have to leave the stage. If they didn’t a bouncer was on hand to escort them away, with gangster Dave Courtney taking the role in some episodes.

Sadowitz – who previously revived the format at the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe – announced his plans to bring in back on social media,

He posted on X: ‘The return of... The People Vs. Jerry Sadowitz! Well it's an attempt at a return. The idea is to film it and put it out online as a regular show.’

He also invited followers to email sadowitzinfo@gmail.com if they wanted to take part in the  first one, to be recorded at The Betsy Trotwood Pub in Farringdon, London on April 15.

He said: ‘Let us know what you want to discuss, rant, moan about, show, share, anything goes. The venue is tiny, so if you want to come along, you have to participate (and agree to be recorded).’

Sadowitz – famously cancelled at the 2022 Fringe after offending staff members at his venue – is currently on tour with Comedian, Magician, Psychopath, which ends next week.
