Eva Bindeman wins Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year

'I'm bloody delighted'

Eva Bindeman as been crowned the 30th Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year

From the North East but now, based in Bristol, the comedian follows in the footsteps of pervious winners such as  Josh Widdicombe, Johnny Vegas and Romesh Ranganathan.

She said: ‘It's shocking and an honour to win Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year and I'm bloody delighted, especially considering how good everyone was.’

‘It was a really fun gig.. the audience were so generous and up for a laugh, so I had a lot of fun.’

Chinese comic Blank Peng was named the runner-up, with Fiona Ridgewell third.

The final at The Y Theatre marks the climax of the Leicester comedy festival and was   hosted by Sindhu Vee.

The other finalists were:  Alasdair Wallace, Alex Bertulis-Fernandes, Henry Michael, Julia Stenton and Romina Puma. All were put forward by comedy promoters from across the country.

Judges were agent Kitty Singleton from Off the Kerb and Georgi McKie from Gag Reflex; Charlotte Lang from Glastonbury’s cabaret tent, Mark Boosey from The British Comedy Guide and comedian Eshaan Akbar.
