...in a C5 documentary about the comedian to be screened this Christmas

Footage of Dudley Moore never previously seen on British TV is to be broadcast for the first time.

The documentary Dudley Moore: That's Entertainment also features the first TV interview with  Rena Fruchter, who cared for the comic in the last years of his life as progressive supranuclear palsy robbed him of his ability to move and communicate.

To be screened on Channel 5 over Christmas, the film promises the first British screening of some of the comedian’s musical performances, as well as other rare archive material.

It features other interviews with John Cleese and Dick Clement – who directed Moore and comedy partner Peter Cook in  Not Only... But Also before going co-create classic sitcoms such as The Likely Lads  and Porridge.

Producers say: ‘The film examines in detail Dudley Moore’s journey from his Dagenham childhood to Hollywood stardom, and then explores how he found fulfilment in his music at the end of his life.’

He made his name in the groundbreaking sketch show Beyond The Fringe, enjoyed a fruitful partnership with Cook,  before moving to Hollywood and becoming unlikely sex symbol with the hit movies 10 and Arthur.

His final years were spent in New Jersey, living with Fruchter and her partner Brian Dallow, surrounded by his music. Moore died on the morning of March 27, 2002,  at the age of 66.
