Nessa becomes a nun when musical reopens in the West End

Ruth Jones is to star in Sister Act The Musical when it returns to the West End next year.

The Gavin and Stacey star will play Mother Superior when the show reopens at the Dominion Theatre in March.

She said today: ‘I’m proper chuffed to be making my West End debut in Sister Act next March playing the legendary Mother Superior at the Dominion Theatre. It’s a crackin’ role and a crackin’ show. Who knew wearing a habit could feel so fabulous! I can’t wait!’

Jennifer Saunders took the role in the original run of the show, from summer 2022, opposite Beverley Knight

The soul singer will reprise her role as disco diva-in-disguise Deloris van Cartier for the new run.

It is slated to  run from Friday March 15 to Saturday August 31.

Jones and  Knight will appear until June 8, after which Alexandra Burke takes over as Deloris. Jones’s replacement has not yet been announced.

The last run was seen by more than 500,000 people.

Earlier this week Jones was spotted in Soho with her Gavin and Stacey co-writer James Corden, sparking some possibly over-optimistic speculation that the hit comedy may return.
