New comedy from Rory McGrath and Philip Pope

Audio project about TV chefs

Rory McGrath and Philip Pope star in a new parody of TV cookery shows, released as a limited edition CD.

In The Two TV Chefs – which has been written by McGrath, the pair play Mick and Dandy, friends since they met, ‘when relieving themselves in the revolving doors at The Ritz’.

McGrath called the show ‘the silliest thing I’ve ever been involved in’, adding that it was ‘great fun to do something so weird and outrageous and wonderful’.

Pope, who also provides music for the special, adds: ‘Working and spending time with Rory was the best, most fulfilling, period of my career… By the way, this is Rory Bremner we’re talking about, right?’

McGrath and Pope have been working together since leaving university, with credits including Who Dares Wins and Chelmsford 1-2-3, which was also recently revived as an audio project.

The Two TV Chefs had originally been in development with Hat Trick Productions – the company run by their Who Dare Wins colleague Jimmy Mulville – which granted permission for this release.

McGrath suggested the idea to producer and director Barnaby Eaton-Jones while working on Chelmsford 123.

‘I’m delighted that Rory and Phillip brought me this gloriously funny send-up of the whole TV cookery phenomenon,’ says Eaton-Jones. ‘The easy yet electric chemistry of the Chelmsford 123 cast was inspiring, and we all vowed to work together again. It was a joy to be in the recording studio with them again.’

A trailer is available here, where the CD can also be ordered for £11.99
