Prayers are answered! Second series for Everyone Else Burns

Simon Bird's doomsday cult comedy to return

Channel 4 has ordered a second series of its doomsday cult comedy Everyone Else Burns.

Simon Bird will return as David, Kate O’Flynn as his wife Fiona and Amy James-Kelly and Harry Connor as their teenage children.

Set in Manchester, the comedy is written by Dillon Mapletoft and Oliver Taylor and filming on season two will get under way next year.
Laura Riseam, Channel 4’s commissioning editor said: "I’m elated that the Lewis family have (so far) survived eternal damnation for long enough in order to deliver another series of the excellent Everyone Else Burns for Channel 4 viewers.’

Last year's series was the biggest new comedy on All 4 since Derry Girls in 2018, although Channel 4 did not release viewing figures.

It received four-star reviews in The Guardian, which said: ‘The jokes come thick, fast and funny’, the London Evening Standard, which said: ‘Let us give thanks and pray for the delay of the apocalypse, if it means more of this’ and the Daily Telegraph, which said: ‘There is much to enjoy here. It’s not a comedy going for cheap laughs about Christianity. It is a show about family, and it has a lot of heart,

The Radio Times and Chortle gave it three stars, but in a two-star review Metro said it was ‘an uneven sitcom, which will require real faith to finish’.

Of the news that it has been renewed for a second series, Beatrice Springborn, president of programme-makers Universal International Studios, says: ‘Everyone Else Burns is a divine comedy full of heart and wit that proves even in chaos, we can all find comedic salvation.’

And executive producer Molly Seymour added that she was 'excited to spread the word about the return of the Lewis family and their admirable attempts at being good people when everyday life continues to tempt them. Dillon and Oliver skilfully continue to build a unique world full of hilarious characters. Viewers are in for such a treat.’

There is no news yet about guest stars or other roles. Series one also featured familiar comedy faces comedy stars Lolly Adefope, Al Roberts, Lloyd Griffith, Kadiff Kirwan, Morgana RobinsonLiam Williams, Kath Hughes, and Seb Cardinal.

The announcement was made at the Edinburgh International Television Festival.
