Comedian becomes the first Indian to land the job

Vir Das is to host the International Emmy Awards, it has been announced, becoming the first Indian to do so.

The comic won the best comedy accolade at last year’s ceremony for his recent Netflix comedy special Landing, having also been nominated in the same  category in 2021.

Now he will present the  2024 trophies on Monday November 25 in New York City. Bruce L. Paisner, president of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, said: ‘We’re delighted to welcome back Vir Das to our stage and to add International Emmy host to his impressive list of talents

‘With his unique humour and perspective on the world, he now joins a distinguished group of gala hosts over the years who fit in perfectly with our global audience."

Previous international Emmy hosts include Ronny Chieng, John Oliver, Matt Lucas, Graham Norton and Indian-American Hari Kondabolu.
