Radio industry's biggest awards

Rob Delaney, Romesh Ranganathan and The Skewer were among the winners at the radio industry’s biggest awards last night.

Jon Holmes’s satirical mash-up show The Skewer won the gold comedy award for its edition covering the Queen’s death, with silver going to Sue Perkins panel show Nature Table and bronze going to the second series of the Alan Partridge podcast From The Oasthouse.

Rob Delaney, above, won the new category of best audiobook or reading for his memoir A Heart That Works, about the loss of his young son Henry. He was presented the award at London's Theatre Royal by fellow comedian Rosie Jones.

Ranganathan’s Radio 2 show For the Love of Hip Hop was named best specialist music show.

At the ceremony, host Rylan Clark paid tribute to Paul O'Grady, describing him as a ‘21st Century national treasure’

Other winners included Tony Blackburn, who took the Pioneer Award, TalkSport’s Adrian Durham  who won best speech presenter and Craig Charles whose Radio 6 Music programme won best music entertainment show.

The BBC took home 17 gold awards in total, with Radio 4 claiming the first spot in seven categories including the prestigious UK station or network of the year,
