Dead Pixels gets an Indian remake

Now set in Hyderabad

Channel 4 gamer  comedy Dead Pixels is to be remade in India.

Disney+ Hotstar is making a version in the Telugu language and relocating the action to Hyderabad.

Created by Jon Brown, the original starred Alexa Davies, Will Merrick, Charlotte Ritchie and Rose Matafeo and ran for two seasons in 2019 and 2021.

Although The Guardian hailed it as ‘the sharpest new sitcom of 2019’ the comedy – about  three friends whose lives revolve around a massive multiplayer online role-playing game called Kingdom Scrolls – struggled to find an audience. Series one started with 590,000 overnight viewers but by the end of series two it was struggling to find 200,000.

The Indian version is being written by Akshay Poolla and tars Niharika Konidela, Harsha Chemudu, Sai Ronak, Akshay Lagusani and Bhavana Sagi.

The British Dead Pixels previously aired in the US on The CW network.
