Jin Hao Lin and Daniel Petrie win Scottish heats

The first two semi-finalists in this year’s Chortle Student Comedy Award have been named, following our heats in Scotland.

And 23-year-old Daniel Petrie was crowned winner of the second heat, at Edinburgh’s Monkey Barrel comedy club. He is a fifth-year medical student at the University of Glasgow.

Next week the competition continues across the north of England, visiting Durham on Sunday (tickets), York on Monday (tickets) and Salford on Wednesday (tickets).

Now in its 19th year, the competition count Joe Lycett Phil Wang,  Jamali Maddix and Erika Ehler among its previous winners, while other finalists have included Ed Gamble, Chris Ramsay, Iain Stirling, Simon Bird and Tom Rosenthal.
