Comedians up for BBC Audio Drama Awards 2023
Milton Jones, Ken Cheng and Tudur Owen are among the finalists for for this year’s BBC Audio Drama Awards.
Up for best long-form scripted comedy were the stand-up shows Ken Cheng: Chinese Comedian and Tudur Owen: United Nations of Anglesey, as well as The Downing Street Doppelganger an historical ‘what-if’ written by Jim Poyser and starring John Thomson as the Prime Minister, and a music hall comedian who can impersonate him.
Thanks a Lot, Milton Jones! is up for best scripted comedy (sketch show) along with Jon Holmes’s satirical audio mash-up show The Skewer and Please Use Other Door, a collection of ‘overheard conversations’ from writers new to radio created by Dead Ringers and Now Show producer Bill Dare; producer Bill Dare, BBC Studios,
Jones’s co-star, the Comedy Store Player Josie Lawrence, is also up for best supporting performance alongside Conleth Hill and Matthew Gravelle.
Meanwhile, Detectorists’ star Toby Jones is up for best actor for his starring role in Radio 3’s adaptation of Molière’s French comic play The Miser.
All the programmes in the comedy categories aired on Radio 4.
Winners will be revealed on Sunday March 19 at a ceremony at BBC Broadcasting House in Central London. A full list of nominees is here.
