Netflix cancels two comedies

Uncoupled and Dead End: Paranormal Park are no more

Netflix has axed two of its comedies, Uncoupled and Dead End: Paranormal Park.

Uncoupled had been devised by Sex And The City and Emily In Paris creator Darren Star with Jeffrey Richman, and featured How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris as a real estate broker who restarted his life after his long-term boyfriend left him.

The show attracted decent reviews – with the first season having a 73 per cent critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. But Variety, which broke the news of the cancellation, said ‘it failed to make a significant viewership impact’.

Meanwhile, the animated fantasy horror comedy series Dead End: Paranormal Park is ending after two series.

It revolved around teenagers Barney Guttman, a gay transgender boy, and  Norma Khan, a bisexual and autistic Pakistani-American girl, working at a theme park.

Creator Hamish Steele said he had planned a third series to  ‘give these characters the proper ending they deserve,’ but that was kiboshed by Netflix executives.

In a social media post, he said: ‘It's with a heavy heart that I tell you Dead End is over.

‘Obviously we never wanted this to be the case. In fact, we did a writers room for Season 3.  We have scripts and designs and outlines ready to go.  It was always the plan to give these characters the proper ending they deserve.  But sadly, the powers that be don't want any more.’

'Honestly we were lucky to make it through everything happening in the last few years. And I want to emphasise my gratitude to Netflix for commissioning the show and for giving us the freedom to tell this story.’

The show was made by UK-based Blink Industries and starred Zach Barack and Kody Kavitha in the lead roles.

British comics Kemah Bob and Jamie Demetriou had small roles, as Henrietta, an orb ghost, and Asmodeus, a demon wrestler, respectively.
