ITV launches new sitcom The Family Pile
The best of the week’s comedy on TV, radio and on demand…
Sunday January 15
BAD EDUCATION: The school comedy is back for its first series in more than eight years, but without co-creator Jack Whitehall, whose teacher character, Alfie Wickers, left in the Christmas special. There’s now a new Class K, while former pupils Stephen Carmichael (Layton Williams) and Mitchell Harper (Charlie Wernham) are now both teachers at Abbey Grove. The series will also see Vicki Pepperdine taking joining as headteacher Ms Hoburn, despite her predecessor Mr Fraser (Mathew Horne) still hanging around. BBC Three, 10pm
DANCING ON ICE: Comedian Darren Harriot hopes to skate into the mainstream as a contestant in this year’s competition. ITV, 6.30pm
Tuesday January 17
THE FAMILY PILE: ITV has another stab at the half-hour comedy with this show in which Clare Calbraith, Claire Keelan, Alexandra Mardell and Amanda Abbington play four sisters who have to navigate grief - and try to sell their late parents’ home - amid the chaos of everyday life.
Thursday January 19
TRAVEL MAN: 48 HOURS IN DUBLIN: Joe Lycett amd Mawaan Rizwan visit Dubli where they dine in the city's smallest restaurant, visit the Guinness Storehouse and take a dip in the sea at Forty Foot, a spot where James Joyce described the water as 'snot green’. Channel 4, 8.30pm.
THE SEX LIVES OF COLLEGE GIRLS: The second series of Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble’s comedy-drama about four roommates at New England’s prestigious Essex College returns to streaming platform ITVX for a second series.
Friday January 20
REPRESENT: This political satire (entitled En Place in its original French) has invited comparisons with The Thick Of It and Veep for its story of an idealistic educator (played by the show’s co-creator Jean-Pascal Zadi) who becomes the first black president of France. New on Netflix today.
JON AND LUCY’S ODD COUPLES: Comedians Sara Pascoe and Steen Raskopolos subject their relationship to Jon Richardson and Lucy Beaumont’s scrutiny alongside Blue singer Duncan James and his ‘civilian’ partner Rodrigo Reis. Channel 4, 9pm.
