Celebrating the best of international TV

Bloods and Toast of Tinseltown have been nominated for this year’ prestigious Rose d’Or international TV award for best comedy.

They are up against Brazil’s As Seguidoras, about a digital influencer who becomes a serial killer,, France’s UFOs and La Flamme – a parody of dating shows like The Bachelor, and Sweden’s relationship comedy Lust.

In the separate comedy drama and sitcom category, the UK is represented by Stephen Merchant’s The Outlaws and Heartstopper, the Netflix LGBTQ+ drama about teen romance.

Also shortlisted in this category are US series Hacks, available on Prime Video in the UK,  The Great, shown on Channel 4 here, as well as Canadian shows Sort Of, about ‘a fluid millennial who straddles various identities’ and Walk-In – about a sexual health clinic, and not to be confused with the new ITV series The Walk-In about neo-Nazis trying to kill an MP.

Jimmy Carr’s  Channel 4 game show I Literally Just Told You is the only UK nominee in the studio entertainment category. Others shortlisted include Jimmy Fallon’s That’s My Jam, which is to be remade in the UK with Mo Gilligan as host.

And in the drama shortlist features This Is Going To Hurt – based on medic-turned-comedian Adam Kay’s bestselling memoirs – and Succession.

The awards will be presented on November 28 at a ceremony hosted by Alex Horne.

Mark Rowland, chair of the judges, said: ‘In a record year, we’ve seen an unrivalled breadth of subjects and innovative creative approaches – with production standards higher than ever in all of the 30 countries whose broadcasters and producers entered shows.

‘Many congratulations to the talented production teams who have reached this final stage.’
