Ghosts in good spirits
The American remake of Ghosts has been renewed for a second series after proving a smash with viewers.
CBS’s decision is likely to lead to a sizeable payday for the comedy’s British creators and stars Mathew Baynton, Jim Howick, Simon Farnaby, Laurence Rickard, Ben Willbond and Martha Howe-Douglas – who are also among the executive producers of the US version.
The comedy has been attracting around 8.1 million viewers an episode, according to the network. And it has been a critical hit, too, with an approval rating of 94 per cent on aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.
Kelly Kahl, president of CBS Entertainment said: ‘Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, together with a breakout cast and exceptional writers, have done a superb job of adapting Ghosts for the US and absolutely making it their own.
‘This smart and charming show is delivering new creative highs, not to mention scaring up new audience highs, every week.’
Executives have also ordered a fourth series of Bob Hearts Abishola, the comedy written by Gina Yashere and made by US sitcom king Chuck Lorre. Kahl said the show blends ‘belly laughs with relatable and culturally relevant storylines’
CBS also renewed its other shows The Neighborhood and, as previously announced, Big Bang Theory prequel Young Sheldon, also from Lorre.
The US version of Ghosts stars Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar as the couple who inherit the haunted, run-down pile.
