Liam Farrelly named Scottish Comedian Of The Year
Liam Farrelly won the Scottish Comedian Of The Year title last night.
The 21-year-old from Paisley secured a £2,000 cash prize plus the chance to gig in Australia, Covid restrictions permitted.
Farrelly started performing stand-up at 17, while still in High School, and was previously a finalist in the same competition in 2018. He was also a BBC New Comedy Award and Beat The Frog World Series finalist this year.
Pun-slinger Richard Pulsford and Icelandic-born Bylgja Babylons were also named runners-up at the final, held at the Rotunda in Glasgow
Other finalists for the contest – which is open to comedians at any level – were MC Hammersmith, Darius Davis, Iain Hume, Mark Black, Ralph Brown, Thomas Elvin and Ross Leslie.
It was the first of three comedy competition finals this week. Tonight, London’s Leicester Square Theatre crowns its new act of the year, while the West End new act of the year takes place at The Carpenter’s Arms pub near Marble Arch.
And on Thursday, the South Coast Comedian Of The Year will be decided at The Spring in Havant, Hampshire. The finalists for all these finals are listed here.
