Three Emmys for Bo Burnham
Bo Burnham has won his first Emmy awards, for his Netflix special Inside.
The comedian scooped three accolades last night: for music direction and for directing and writing for a ‘variety special’ for the show about the stresses of lockdown.
He had been nominated for five awards in the creative arts segment of the TV world’s biggest awards, which were announced across three ceremonies last night.
And Burnham is still in the running for ‘outstanding variety special (pre-recorded)’ which will be announced at the primetime Emmy awards next Sunday.
Saturday Night Live was a big winner with seven awards for directing, hairstyling, make-up, lighting design and production design –while Dave Chappelle and Maya Rudolph both won Emmys for their weeks as guest host.
Rudolph also won an Emmy for her voiceover performance as Connie the Hormone Monstress on Netfix’s animated comedy Big Mouth.
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver won for technical direction, while Disney+ comedy Wandavision won for costumes, production design and original music for the song, Agatha All Along
Ted Lasso, A Black Lady Sketch Show and Roseanne spin-off The Connors won Emmys for picture editing, while British-made Ted Lasso also won awards for casting and sound mixing.
James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke was named outstanding sort-form comedy series, while other big winners included The Queen’s Gambit, The Mandalorian, The Crown: A Life on Our Planet David Attenborough, RuPaul's Drag Race.
