Sky buys A Black Lady Sketch Show
A Black Lady Sketch Show is coming to the UK.
Sky Comedy is to air the first series of the acclaimed US comedy show, more than a year after it debuted on HBO.
The series was created by comedian Robin Thede, who recruited her friends from comedy - Quinta Brunson, Ashley Nicole Black, and Gabrielle Dennis - to develop a programme to address the dearth of black women's representation in the American comedic landscape.
When it launched in August last year, it was the first US television series to have a writer's room entirely composed of black women. It was renewed for a second series within a month of its debut, although it has not yet returned to air.
A Black Lady Sketch Show has also been nominated for three primetime Emmy Awards, which will be announced next month.
The first series, which will air on Sky Comedy from Tuesday September 1 in a prime-tine 9pm slot, features guest stars including Angela Bassett, Patti LaBelle, and Insecure creator Issa Rae, whose production company makes the show.
