Streaming giant signs up Australian comics

Amazon has announced ten comedy specials from Australian stand-ups.

Yesterday Chortle reported that Alice Fraser was taping her acclaimed show Savage in Melbourne next week for the streaming service.

Now the internet giant has announced it will alo be releasing

  • Zoe Coombs Marr: Bossy Bottom
  • Tom Gleeson: Joy
  • Celia Pacquola: All Talk
  • Tommy Little: Self-Diagnosed Genius
  • Judith Lucy: Judith Lucy vs Men
  • Lano & Woodley: Fly
  • Anne Edmonds: What’s Wrong With You?
  • Tom Walker: Very Very
  • Dilruk Jayasinha: Live

Amazon Studios head of international originals James Farrell said: ‘Amazon’s comedy series and stand-up specials have excited our customers around the world, and we’re looking forward to welcoming this talented group of Australian comedians to the Prime Video family. These are hilarious performances that we know our customers will love in Australia and around the world.’

The specials will all be filmed at The Coopers Malthouse Theatre in Melbourne. Tickets are available here. They’re expected to be released on Amazon Prime worldwide in early 2020.

They are being made by  Guesswork Television, which also produced Hannah Gadsby’s acclaimed stand-up comedy special Nanette for Netflix.

Amazon previously announced the comedy reality show LOL: Last One Laughing would be made down under. Hosted by Rebel Wilson, it will feature 10 local comedians competing to try to make each other laugh

 The company has only just entered the stand-up special market hitherto dominated by Netflix, with releases in the last month by Jim Gaffigan and British acts Ed Gamble, Flo & Joan, Paul Chowdhry and Chris Ramsey.

Also previously announced are new specials by Catastrophe star Rob Delaney and Jayde Adams

Adams will tape her 2019 Edinburgh show The Ballad of Kylie Jenner’s Old Face at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London on September 21; while Delaney records his at the Hackney Empire on September 27.
