US comic Theo Von reschedules UK dates
American comedian and podcaster Theo Von has rescheduled his UK and Ireland dates, which he pulled at the last minute after being cast in a movie.
Last week, the stand-up dropped his European tour less than a month before it was due to start after landing a role alongside Chris Pratt in the forthcoming sci-fi thriller Ghost Draft.
Some fans said they had been ‘shafted’ by the decision after shelling out for hotel and travel costs that could not be recovered, saying they were ‘pissed’ and ‘bitter’ over his move. But others expressed sympathy for him grabbing the career opportunity.
The new dates will be January 4 and 5 for the Manchester Dancehouse; January 6 for Dublin’s Vicar Street; January 8 for the Glasgow O2 Academy; January 10 and 11 for London’s Shepherds Bush Empire.
Earlier this year Von railed against Chris D’Elia for cancelling a show because of bad weather, telling his fans: ‘I will never cancel a show. If I lose an arm… I’ll be at my show dude I’ve got another arm. That shit makes me mad.
And in an extended mockery, he said: ’This reminds me of something like a stepdad does or a dad who doesn’t really like to take care of his babies.’
Announcing his decision on his podcast last week, Von said he wrestled with the decision as he didn’t want to let fans down.
Tickets purchased for the original shows on his Dark Arts tour will be honoured for the new dates, with no need to change them. If the new dates are not suitable, fans can get refunds at the point of purchase.
Von is best known for his hit podcast This Past Weekend, which boasts 3.5 million listeners every month, and has also made a Netflix comedy special No Offense. He previously hosted the American hidden camera show Deal With It, which ran for three seasons.
His digital series Man Up airs on Comedy Central’s website in the US, and is being developed for television.
Lego Batman director Chris McKay is at the helm of Ghost Draft, which is about a family man drafted to fight a future war in which the fate of humanity may rely on his ability to correct the past.
