Simpsons renewed for two more seasons

Bringing the number of episodes up to 713

The Simpsons has been renewed for two more seasons – taking it to a mammoth 713 episodes.

America’s Fox network has announced the 31st and 32nd seasons, expected to launch in autumn 2019 and 2020 respectively.

Had the characters aged in real time, Bart would be 42 years old by the time the last of these episodes air.

Last year The Simpsons overtook Gunsmoke’s record as the longest-running scripted TV show, with  635 episodes. Episode 652 airs in the US this Sunday.

Before The Simpsons, the longest-running prime-time animated series on network television was The Flintstones which ran for just six seasons from 1960.

Once the new episodes have been made, if you were to watch all 713 22-minute episodes back-to-back it would take just under 11 days.
