iPlayer adds scores of shows for Christmas

The BBC is putting a raft of box sets on to iPlayer this Christmas as it takes on the might of Netflix.

The likes of Inside No. 9, The League Of Gentlemen, Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle and Outnumbered are being added to the contemporary offerings on the on-demand players.

In total more than 100 box sets will be made available across comedy, drama and children’s programming.

Charlotte Moore, BBC director of content, stressed the home-grown nature of iPlayer compared to US-dominated Netflix or Amazon Prime.

She said: ‘It’s a very special collection of British programming that we know people will love and a chance for everybody to spoil themselves with some real treats over the Christmas period.
