Colin Murphy to front BBC show about bygone fears

Like he Cold War, UFOs and nuclear armageddon...

Stand-up Colin Murphy is making a three-part BBC TV series about the things he used to worry about when the was a teenager.

Colin Murphy's Panic Room will cover the likes of the Cold War, UFOs and nuclear armageddon when it airs on BBC Northern Ireland early next year.

The broadcaster says: ‘Looking back now to the 60s, 70s and 80s, Colin realises he wasted a lot of time worrying about stuff that he really shouldn’t have’.

It was one of several commissions announced by BBC NI director Peter Johnston, including more episodes of long-running comedies Give My Head Peace and The Blame Game 

They also include a second five-part series of Soft Border Patrol, which imagines hapless officers patrolling the interface between Northern Ireland and the South following Brexit.

Made by the Glasgow-based Comedy Unit, most of the dialogue in the series is largely improvised and performed by a cast, including Karen Hassan and Niall Sweeney, Also making cameo appearances are BBC Northern Ireland weather man Barra Best, broadcaster and singer ‘Uncle Hugo’ Duncan and country star Lisa McHugh.

And Ardal O’Hanlon is making a documentary – which will also air on BBC Four – examining the history and popularity of Irish showbands.
