E4 buys Harry Styles-inspired sitcom
Channel 4 has bought the rights to the new sitcom loosely based on Harry Styles’s life.
The former One Direction star is one of the executive producers on Happy Together, about a 30-something happily married couple who reconnect with their younger, cooler selves when a young pop star moves in with them.
Starring Damon Wayans Jr, the sitcom starts on CBS in the States on Monday – and will be coming to E4 soon after.
The story is inspired by the time young Styles, below, moved to London to live with his friend, the TV producer Ben Winston – another executive producer on the new comedy. He intended to stay for two weeks, but ended up there for the best part of two years.
Amber Stevens West play’s Wayans’s wife, with 24-year-old Neighbours actor Felix Mallard as the pop star, Cooper James.
CBS has played down the links between the sitcom and its inspiration, saying: 'Although the series is inspired by when Ben and Harry lived together, that’s where the reality ends. The show is not based on real life experiences and characters.’
Winston is also one of the executive producers of James Corden’s Late Late Show – and the talk-show host makes a cameo, as this trailer shows:
The deal for Happy Together is part of a raft of shows brought from CBS Studios International, which also includes Cheers for Channel 4, the reimagining of the fantasy drama Charmed for E4, future seasons of The Good Fight on More4, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, which will air on 4Music; 90210 for All 4; and the sitcom Rules Of Engagement for E4.
