ITV2 orders stand-up and sketch hybrid show
Joel Dommett, Tom Allen, Seann Walsh and Russell Kane are among the comedians making a new hybrid stand-up and sketch show for ITV, Chortle can reveal.
The Stand Up Sketch Show sees the comics telling a story on stage in front of a live audience, before the focus shifts to a filmed reconstruction of their material.
Suzi Ruffell, Adam Hess, Fern Brady, Lou Sanders, Brennan Reece, London Hughes and George Lewis also feature in the show, with further acts to be announced closer to transmission on ITV2 at the start of next year.
Six episodes of thirty minutes have been ordered, with each featuring eight to ten sketches and the comics lip-synching their own dialogue in the reconstructions, assisted by actors.
Live comedy elements of the show were recorded at the Up The Creek club in London earlier this month.
Showcasing stand-up is something of a departure for ITV, which is better known for the sitcom Plebs, Keith Lemon vehicles, and Love Island.
The Stand Up Sketch Show is made by Spirit Media, which previously revived Trigger Happy TV on All4 and made Jeff Leach + 1 for London Live, as well as working with the likes of Rob Beckett, Romesh Ranganathan, Joe Lycett and Josh Widdicombe on online content.
The series is directed and executive produced by Spirit's Matt Campion and produced by Jenny Joyce. It was commissioned for ITV2 by Saskia Schuster, ITV’s Comedy Controller and Paul Mortimer, ITV’s Head of Digital Channels and Acquisitions.
'I’m thrilled to be working with so many of the UK’s top comedy talent to bring their funniest stand up routines to life via the art form of sketch' said Campion. 'It’s really exciting to be producing such a new style of comedy format in the genre.'
Schuster added: 'The Stand Up Sketch Show will offer comedy lovers a unique visual take on comedian’s stand up routines.
'We’ve got a great cast lined up that includes some of the biggest names in comedy, including some of the best up and coming rising talent currently on the circuit.'
