ITV axes Bigheads and The Nightly Show

Comedy formats 'underperformed'

ITV has confirmed that The Nightly Show will not be returning  – while also cancelling the Jason Manford fronted gameshow Bigheads.

The broadcaster conceded that both shows had underperformed in the ratings.

ITV  controversial moved the News At  Ten to accommodate The Nightly Show in a bid to replicate the success of US late-night talk shows.

However, it averaged just 1.38million with a rotating line-up of hosts including David Walliams, John Bishop and Manford.

The broadcaster has also announced that it will not be renewing Bigheads after one series.

Airing on a Sunday night, the It’s A Knockout style show featured contestants embarking on physical challenges while wearing giant celebrity heads.

It attracted around two million viewers per episode, but that was only as third as many as BBC One’s Antiques Roadshow drew in the same slot.

In its annual report, ITV conceded: ‘Some of our schedule did not perform as well as we had hoped, for example The Nightly Show, Fearless and Bigheads, so will not return in 2018.’
