NextUp specials released on DVD
Comedy-on-demand service NextUp has signed a DVD deal to release some of its stand-up specials as physical products.
Colin Hoult's Sketch Show For Depressives – performed as his alter-ego Anna Mann – today becomes the fourth title available under the contract.
Shows by other emerging comics Lou Sanders, Jordan Brookes and the Mash Report’s Rachel Parris are also available from Warwickshire-based Canny Store.
The company manufactures its titles on demand, pressing a new disc each time a title is ordered from its website, Amazon or other online retailers.
Although the industry trend is away from DVDs and towards video-on-demand services, NextUp co-founder Sarah Henley said: ‘This move follows the success that vinyl has enjoyed and recognises that plenty of comedy fans either enjoy something physical, or aren’t digitally engaged.’
Further titles to be released in the coming weeks will feature Jonny Pelham, Bobby Mair, Hal Cruttenden and Brennan Reece.
The DVD market is still worth £800 million a year, and Micky Flanagan’s stand-up show An Another Fing remains in the top 20 bestsellers, just above Despicable Me 3, nine weeks after release.
