France is getting its own version of Ghosts.

Ghosts: Fantômes en Héritage — will drop on Disney+ in France and Belgium on April 9 and then play on commercial broadcaster TF1 at a later date.

The six episodes are closely based on the BBC original, rather than the US remake which developed its own style and stories over its 67 episodes.

New characters for the French version include Paul Déby, a Nazi collaborator from World War 2 who is now a social outcast, and Countess Marie-Catherine de Mérudeaux,  a Marie Antoinette-style aristocrat.

The team behind the French comedy told industry website  Deadline that they would like to follow the example set by the US version of The Office and stray further from the Brit scripts if it is renewed for a second series.

Camille Chamoux and Hafid Benamar  play Alison and Nabil, who inherit the chateau occupied by the ghosts.

Arthur Sanigou  who wrote the French series with Joris Goulenok  told Deadline: ‘The English show was not very famous in France, it was very new for us, and we watched all the UK series. After the first two minutes, I was like: Okay, I love it, the energy, the comedy, the setup with some shots where you see the ghosts and some where you don’t.’

In February 2025, NBC renewed the American series for a fifth and sixth season.

Meanwhile an American remake of Ludwig is in the pipeline.

Broadcast reports that production company Big Talk Studios has hired US writers Megan Ganz and Jonathan E Steinberg to adapt the scripts of the David Mitchell detective series.

Ganz perviously worked on satirical publication The Onion,  Community, Modern Family and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia while Steinberg is co-creator of post-apocalyptic drama Jericho and action adventure series Black Sails.
