Comic to front tough new travelogue for BBC Two

Romesh Ranganathan is to front a new travelogue series for BBC Two.

The announcement of the new show, entitled Romesh’s Really Rough Guide, came just hours after Chortle revealed that the comedian is also making a US show about his attempts to crack America as a stand-up.

Over the three-part BBC Two series, Ranganathan will be taken out of his comfort zone an into some of the most beautiful but dangerous places on earth.

Programme-makers Rumpus Media – who previously made the comedian’s BBC Three travelogue Asian Provocateur,  say the places chosen are ‘largely unspoiled by hordes of tourists because of their bad reputations’.

However, they would not be drawn on the exact locations where the show will be filmed.

The comic said: I got fed up with people telling me that doing travel shows was essentially a paid holiday, so I decided to tackle that by doing one where I could actually die.’

Emily Hudd, the joint managing director of Rumpus Media, added: ‘We’re so excited to be working with Romesh again on this new series for BBC Two, as he gives us his uniquely funny take on some of the most beautiful yet dangerous places on the planet.  Are they as terrifying as we think, or could you actually have a lovely holiday there?’

No transmission date has yet been announced for Romesh’s Really Rough Guide, which is still a working title. It was commissioned by BBC Two controller Patrick Holland and factual entertainment chief David Brindley.
