Mann up!
This week's best comedy shows on demand.
Pls Like
Rather irritatingly drip-released in 15-minute episodes at 5pm every Saturday, like it's 2010 or something, Pls Like is a mockumentary about a search for the next megastar You Tuber. It stars Liam Williams as a struggling comedian reluctantly learning the tricks of the online trade as well as Tim Key, Emma Sidi. Jon Pointing and others. It's available on iPlayer and BBC Three's YouTube channel.
Anna Mann's Valentine
Sky Arts released its latest batch of shorts to subscribers last week (Here is our guide if you missed it). But they also sneaked out the episode featuring Colin Hoult's irrepressible grand dame of the theatre, Anna Mann, on YouTube earlier this week. In the ten-minute film she gatecrashes one couple's Valentine dinner, forcing them to face up to the state of their relationship.
The Comedian
No, not the Bobby De Niro flick, but a short made by US stand-up Johnny Pemberton – who's appeared in 21 Jump Street and Ant-Man – featuring a very peculiar comedy club set:
A Funny Kind Of World
Podcasts about the art of comedy are all the rage, and this BBC Radio Scotland show hopes to tap into that as Julia Sutherland meets a range of international comedians. In this episode, she discusses the issue of race and culture in comedy, mixed with the sets that prompt debate. It features Tommy Tiernan speaking about the context of comedy, Jamali Maddix on coming from a mixed race background, Ro Campbell on immigrating to the Shetland Islands from Australia, and Sindu Vee on playing political correctness to her advantage.
