Country cousins

BBC Three rural mockumentary from Daisy May and Charlie Cooper

Character comic siblings Daisy May and Charlie Cooper have landed their own BBC Three sitcom.

The pair play cousins Kerry and Lee 'Kurtan' Mucklowe in the picturesque rural mockumentary This Country, which also features their father, Paul, and uncle, Ballot Monkeys star Trevor, in cameos.

Set and filmed in the Cotswolds in the autumn, the six 30-minute episodes, which the pair also wrote, will air on BBC Three on iPlayer from February 8.

Him & Her's Paul Chahidi co-stars as the village vicar in the comedy, which also features Detectorists actor Laura Checkley and stand-up Preston Nyman.

The premise is that a film crew follows the Mucklowes' lives in their close-knit community, where young people are typically stigmatised and marginalised. But the feckless cousins constantly squabble as they struggle to retain respect amongst their neighbours.

The producer is Josh's Simon Mayhew-Archer and the director is Tom George, whose credits include the BBC comedy feed Limbo and the CBBC sitcom Hank Zipser.

This Country bears a passing resemblance to the never-broadcast 2014 ITV2 pilot, Kerry, which was also written by and starring the Coopers,  but focused on Daisy as the titular working-class tomboy in Cirencester falling in love with her best friend.

Kerry and Kurtan previously appeared on the first series of BBC Three's Live From The BBC.
