Jessica Hynes creates female superhero
Jessica Hynes has written a TV show about a female superhero.
The W1A star reportedly pitched the idea to Sky Atlantic a few years ago without success, but now hopes another broadcaster will pick it up.
Her creation was called Justine ‘because she fights for Justice’, Hynes said – adding that she has someone in mind for the role but wouldn’t reveal who.
‘She is a martial artist, a very skilled fighter,’ she said of her creation. ‘Another important thing about her is the costume. She’ll be cool to cosplay for young girls.’
The comedy star, who co-created Spaced, told the Radio Times her inspiration came from seeing the limited outfits for female fans of the genre to wear at the Comic Con event in 2008 (where she is pictured above) – though admits things have changed since.
Hynes said she was developing the show until her attentions were diverted to creating the BBC suffragette sitcom Up the Women
‘It got to a really quite fully developed stage as a script and as a vision document and as an idea, and then like all things in development, things change, people move on, you know…’
However, Hynes added that she would continue to work on the idea this year as ‘I just enjoy doing it’.
