Comic kidnapped and beaten over a sketch
A comedian has been kidnapped, beaten then Dumped in the street by a musician he mocked in a sketch.
Zimbabwean dancehall artist Lady Squanda and her associates even recorded their assault of Abra Skimbo on their phones.
The footage was posted online, along with a separate video said to show them plotting their revenge for a video the comic had made in which he joked about news reports of her stealing items from a hotel.
Skimbo told journalists that the musician and two men came to his house in the Zengeza township near Harare, saying they wanted to collaborate on a song. They told him they had the backing track in their car, but when he got in, they drove off to another location where 'up to ten' other men were waiting.
The footage shows Skimbo being repeatedly beaten around the head in the back seat of the car, then forced to kiss Squanda's bare feet. The assailants made him say: 'I just kissed Lady Squanda's feet. It's so lovely' and: 'I messed with the wrong people. Please forgive me God.'
Squanda was unrepentant when the footage emerged, telling the local press: 'He has been dissing me for some time now.'
But as the pressure grew, she issued an apology, saying: 'To all my fans who continue in believing in me makes it clear to me that I have made a big mistake. I can't dare to say anything but apologise for this incident.'
Squanda had been due to tour the UK in September as part of the Bodyslam UK Tour Madirirano, but was quickly dropped from the bill after the video was made public – and replaced by Skimbo.
The comedian has reported his assault to police.
