Apocalypse No

Doomsday for Sky's end-of-world comedy

Sky's star-studded comedy-drama You, Me And The Apocalypse – which dealt with the countdown to a meteor strike on Earth – has not been renewed for a second series.

The broadcaster admitted: 'A story with the end of the world at its heart was always going to be hard to bring back.'

However, the door was open to a follow-up as the tenth episode concluded with characters played by  Pauline Quirke, Diana Rigg and Mathew Baynton, among others, holed up in an underground bunker.

Baynton, who also stars in The Wrong Mans and Horrible Histories, had floated the idea of a second series, bur admitting: 'It will be very different to the first.... It will be about the bunker and how people get on in there or probably about the future when they emerge from that bunker.'

However Sky says the show has 'reached its natural conclusion'.

A spokesman told the Radio Times: 'The news that a comet was on an unavoidable collision course towards earth triggered a joyous, fun, 34-day dramatic countdown to the end of the world in You, Me And The Apocalypse. Our cast of characters did things they never believed they would do and gave us a show that was loved by critics and the audience alike.

'We thank the entire creative team, cast and everyone working at Working Title Television and NBCUniversal International Studios.'

Created by Iain Hollands, You, Me And The Apocalypse also starred Joel Fry, Jenna Fischer and Rob Lowe.

The show started with 1.28million viewers on Sky 1 last October, but dwindled to half that number by the end.

It is still airing on NBC in the States, where it started with more than 5million viewers, but with last week's episode attracting just 2.34million – with four more instalments to air.
