Awards haul for Peter Kay's Car Share

Four gongs at RTS ceremony

Peter Kay's Car Share has scooped four gongs at the the annual Royal Television Society North West Awards.

The show was named best comedy programme, while Kay won best performance in a comedy, as well as sharing the writing prize with co-writers Sian Gibson, Paul Coleman, and Tim Reid taking the Best Script Writer prize.

The show, about two supermarket colleagues forced to share their commute, also won the award for best post production.

Car Share debuted on iPlayer earlier this year, then went on to attracted up to 6.85 million viewers according to overnight figures.

Shane Allen, the BBC’s controller of comedy commissioning, has hinted that the show will be back for a second series.

Guests at the RTS ceremony in Manchester included Ted Robbins and Jason Manford.
