Heckler ruins Kevin Bridges gig
Kevin Bridges was forced to abandon a stand-up show because of a persistent heckler.
The comic walked off stage of the Millennium Forum in Derry following repeated abuse from a woman in the audience.
Fans said she was yelling from the start of Friday's show. She was eventually ejected from the venue but not, they say, until she had thoroughly ruined the show, forcing Bridges to cut his performance short.
David McLaughlin, chief executive of the 1,000-seat venue, told the local Derry Journal that it had been a 'disappointing' incident.
Fans of Bridges have been posting supportive messages on social media:
On Facebook, Shaun Logie wrote: 'I attended last night's show in Derry...absolutely a disgrace on how or why the girl wasn't removed before you had to make decision to leave stage!'
Maura Farren added: 'So embarrassed by last night's heckler. Please do not let it put you off Derry. We love you here.'
On Twitter, Nicola Convery said: 'Some ill mannered people in Derry ruined the night for Kevin and the rest of us in the crowd.'
Declan McDonnell: 'First time I've seen a female heckler physically removed, but she had to go lol. Kevin Bridges, absolutely superb. Hilarious from the start.'
However, others were angry that the gig was cut short with Norah Mcginty writing: 'A lot of people very annoyed. We deserve a refund or tickets to another night.'
It is not the first time hecklers have ruined a Kevin Bridges gig. In 2012 a gig in Arbroath turned sour when a thug threatened to take the comic outside and 'kick his head in' after shouting relentless abuse at him. some ill mannered people in Derry ruined the night for Kevin and the rest of us in the crowd
