Timothy Spall to play Fungus The Bogeyman
Timothy Spall and Victoria Wood are to star in a TV adaptation of Fungus the Bogeyman, which starts production this week.
The four-part series inspired by Raymond Briggs’ humorous family story is being made for Sky 1 to broadcast in for instalments this Christmas.
Spall, who takes the lead role, said: ‘Fungus has brought joy to generations of children and I am so thrilled to be playing such a beloved character.’
The adaptation has beens written by Tom MacRae, who created Comedy Central sitcom Threesome and will also star The Thick Of It’s Joanna Scanlan as Fungus’s beloved Bogeywife Mildrew, and Paul Kaye as the ‘bogey hunter’
Wood plays Eve, an eccentric ‘Dry Cleaner’ – or human surface-dweller – living in Daventry
Keeley Hawes and Marc Warren also have roles as ‘Dry Cleaners’, with Andy Serkis as the narrator.
