June Whitfield joins EastEnders
Veteran comedy actress June Whitfield is to appear in EastEnders.
The 89-year-old will star opposite Jessie Wallace, who plays Kat Moon, in an episode in May – but the BBC has given no further details about her role.
Whitfield, who has starred in comedies from Hancock’s Half Hour to Ab Fab, said she was a long-time fan of the soap and ‘very excited’ to be involved.
‘I have watched EastEnders for years, and have been so impressed by the standard of acting,’ she said. ‘ It was an absolute delight to work with Jessie Wallace and I am very excited to be part of the show.’
Actress Jan Harvey, best known for the 1980s drama Howards Way, is also set to make a guest appearance, in a role relating to Sharon Mitchell.
EastEnders executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins said: ‘We are extremely privileged to have two British television legends joining us for guest roles as Albert Square heads into the spring.
’Both June and Jan are class acts, bringing warmth and humanity to two characters who will shed some light on the pasts of two of our most iconic women.’
