Injuries during treatment, but he's doing well

Ted Robbins suffered 12 broken ribs and a cracked breastbone as medics fought to save him when he collapsed on stage, it has been revealed.

However, the comic has been told will not need invasive surgery following his cardiac arrest during Phoenix Nights Live.

The injuries were sustained as two health workers rushed from the audience to perform CPR on the stricken star after he collapsed at the Manchester Arena last Saturday.

But the comic’s son Jack told the People: ‘We’ll take a few broken ribs because he’s still here with us. Apparently it’s quite common during CPR.’

It has been reported that the 59-year-old could leave Wythenshawe hospital as early as next week.

His family tweeted that it was ‘great news’ that he did not need invasive surgery adding: ‘He wants to thank everyone for the ongoing support and love. He looks forward to getting back to what he loves best.’

An extra show has been added to the ongoing run of Phoenix Nights Live to make up for the performance cut short by Robbins’s collapse.

An extra matinee has been added on February 15 for ticket-holders. But the deadline for the seats to be claimed is midnight tomorrow, Monday February 9.

It is expected that leftover tickets from those unable to make a return trip to Manchester will be made available to the general public after that.

The 15-day run is in aid of Comic Relief, with Peter Kay and the rest of the cast performing for free.
