Barry Cryer makes radio hall of fame
Barry Cryer is to be inducted into the Arqiva Radio Academy Hall of Fame for his work on I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue since 1974 and his own sitcom with Graeme Garden You’ll Have Had Your Tea. The ceremony, which also honours Jo Whiley, Vanessa Feltz and others, takes place on December 4.
BBC RADIO Wales has commissioned a second series of Siadwel, the sitcom starring John Sparkes' awkward bedsit poet creation. His series last year was the first time the character had been broadcast in 25, since the days of BBC Two's Naked Video. HUGH LAURIE is to appear in the next series of Veep. The House star was spotted filming with the crew in Baltimore this week. It’s not known what his role will be in the fourth series – in which Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s character Selina Meyer takes over as President – but reports say it will be a recurring character.
LONDON's Bloomsbury Theatre – a favourite for comedy shows – is to open a studio space accommodating up to 110 audience members from April. Theatre director Peter Cadley said: 'The Bloomsbury provided an early stage for some of this country's most popular comedy talent including Lily Savage, Eddie Izzard, Jo Brand, Jeremy Hardy, Armando Iannucci, Mark Thomas, Ricky Gervais, Jimmy Carr and Harry Hill. Now, the creation of this new studio will give us the opportunity to work with even more artists at the beginning of their careers.'
ANGUS DEAYTON is to host a one-off clip show for ITV next month. Christmas Epic Fails follows a similar World Cup one-off which aired in the summer, and promises 'cringe-worthy gifts, unsettling Santas and never-seen-before bloopers.'
