New comedy contest launched

£2k prize in Hobgoblin's talent hunt

Another comedy contest is to launch next month.

The Hobgoblin Comedy Award, sponsored by the beer brand, offers the winner a £2,000 cash prize as well as other rewards.

It is being run with Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival – and the final takes place at the city's 2,000-capacity De Montfort Hall as part of the event next February.

Nineteen heats take place in England, Wales and Northern Ireland in October and November, all hosted by Tiernan Douieb, who will be driving between gigs in a Hobgoblin-branded Jaguar.

To enter comedians – including sketch, cabaret or musical performers – need to upload a video clip once entries open at www.wychwood.co.uk on Monday August 4. There is no restriction on how much experience entrants must or must not have.

The final takes place on February 7 at a gig that also includes Katharine Ryan, Arthur Smith and Matt Richardson.

Regional winners get a photo shoot and promotional video, and the champion also gets guaranteed performances at comedy festivals and clubs around Britain in 2015.
